Proper Nutrition in a Sober Living Environment
Substance abuse is one of the major causes of nutritional deficiencies in the United States. Being nutrient deficient affects the proper functioning of the organs, metabolism, and overall mental well-being (nim.nih.gov). At West Coast Recovery Centers, we believe that maintaining a proper diet through every step of the recovery process is vital to the restoration of mental and physical health. While residing in our men’s and women’s transitional living centers, clients of our gender-conscious transitional living programs will have weekly meetings with our chef at a local Farmers Market. There, they will learn how to properly select fresh produce and produce healthy meals, as a part of their transition into a balanced and mindful lifestyle. By the end of the sober living phase of their treatment, they will have already taken on the responsibility of planning and preparing some of the facility’s meals.
